Walking down Great Pulteney Street towards the impressive sun soaked façade of the Holburne Museum was a suitable start to this most beautiful of dance performances inspired by the contents of this little gem of a museum.

 

You don’t attend the performances you more happen upon them as you wander round the various galleries.

 

The three I witnessed were very different in their approach to interpreting the surrounding exhibits. The first was based around a window in the Posnett Gallery. This was gentle and serene as the dancers slipped in and out of the sunshine streaming in through the window then we are gentle guided to a large gallery space where a pianist plays on a piano once owned by Rachmaninoff and the inhabit this vast space with movements based on the parquet floor squares

 

The second was three bride like figures appearing on the balcony doorway – using this frame to tell their story, each appearing from round corners and telling their story. The ensemble here was very powerful.

 

The final piece was a fitting finale to this wander through the spaces. This duo had bags of comedic elements to this dance theatre piece and definitely brought the gilt glad paintings that surrounded us to life.

 

This fusion between the young and the old is a beautiful example of young creative can be inspired by the relics of the past. Go See It – you won’t be disappointed.
