Revolt, She Said. Revolt Again, written by Alice Birch, is a tour de force script that challenges our notions and perspectives of language and how we communicate.

The audience were placed above the playing space,  this impacted sight-lines and at times there was a feeling of disconnection from the action on stage and many moments were lost due to this. This was a shame as when you were able to see it was evident that the cast were giving strong performances and were totally committed to the challenging material the playwright offers. This was a brave performance but could do with a little more range in pace and texture so we are navigated clearly through the ideas and themes of the work, an given more insight into what the director wanted to highlight.

The scene in themselves were compelling, with beautiful language that was funny, playful and subverts your expectations, challenging your internal prejudice as well as making you ask the question ‘why shouldn’t I get Monday off!’  However it was unclear if the scenes were together in one narrative story or scenes from different women’s lives.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this work, the script packs a punch and gave me food for thought, even if it was a watermelon.
